Consequences of Unsuccessful Or Bad Marriages (Divorce) And the Extent of Their Damage

We'd better take a good look at it, and know what we're getting into before we end up with a nightmare we can't get out of. A world without marriage is a world virtually without sexual responsibility or self-control. It is a world brazenly committed to a "me first" Philosophy, the playboy variety of heldonism (a word that means living for selfish pleasure alone). How would such a world look like?

Such a world will be Sodom and Gomorrah all over again, says Billy Graham. The "western" brand of sexual hedonism "began in defiance of Christian law,..... rebellion against God". Even those who promote the filth confess that they are appalled by it. Jacques Levy, a director of pornographic theater, says:

I feel that the "sex explosion" and pornography are destructive to civilization. This is not the first time that this has happened. When a society gets to the point where it is eating its own entrails and its civilization is about to crumble, it immediately returns to the expression of sexuality as the only thing left to somehow titillate and excite. What we're seeing now is a kind of decay and destruction of the Judeo-Christian society with its ethics and values.

Children growing up in such a world often do not know their fathers, and even their mothers are given to seeking their own selfish pleasure, too. In such a world of sexual irresponsibility, where free love and prostitution compete, the children are the inevitable losers. Psychiatric disorders abound where family fidelity is lacking, Charlie Manson was the offspring of a prostitute, and the world has heard of his bizarre murders. The world's most notorious sex-murderer, Pedro Alfonso Lopez. with more than 300 murdered girls to his credit in Colombia, South America, was also the son of a prostitute, one of 13 children all with different fathers. A world without the family will be worse than a barnyard world. for some animals have a tight family unit. Suicide has now become the second leading cause of death among young people in the West. Why? Broken homes.

"But Christian marriage and fidelity are difficult" say many youths today. No, not at all, if the love of Christ is understood. Those who predict a future world without marriage are partly right, for the trend at present is in that direction; but thank God, they are also partly wrong. Christ foresaw the appalling immorality of our last days when He predicted, "Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." But he also added the "good news" that we desperately want to hear:

He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come (Matthew 24:12-14).

As long as the Holy spirit continues to work in this dark world, there will still be happy, faithful marriages. Where sin has abounded, grace will much more abound. (Romans 6:20). The good news is that your marriage can be a happy one. And not only can be, but will be if you will believe the good news. Although "iniquity shall abound" like an ocean of corruption all around us, God's more abounding grace will build islands of purity, and faithful love where least expected in the midst of a world where "the love of many shall wax cold...." Divorces may run rampant all around us; our friends and neighbors even our relatives, may all fall before the temptation; yet the Lord's promise is, "A thousand shall fall at they side, and ten thousand at they right hand; but it shall not come high thee" (psalm 91:7).

The key word that spells success in marriage is Love, love that God gives as freely as He gives fresh air for all to breathe. It is not reserved for a chosen few, and certainly not for people who "deserve" it, for the truth is that no one really deserves it. But all may have the gift who will accept it-life long love for one man and one woman in a marriage "for better or for worse, in sickness or in health, in prosperity or in adversity, until death do us part" such love is not Western, nor Eastern, nor African. It is from the Creator and Redeemer of all human beings. He made us for it, and we are cheated unless we know it.
